The Department of Hindi, established in 1963 is one of the oldest University Departments of the state. It was a part of the erstwhile Kerala University. At the early stage it was functioning in the Govt. Maharaja’s College Campus, Ernakulam. In 1967 it was shifted to Thrikkakara campus as ‘Ernakulam Centre’ of Kerala University. In 1971 the ‘Ernakulam Centre’ was converted into Cochin University.
In 1986, it has been renamed as Cochin University of Science and Technology. From the period of its inception the Department has blossomed into one of the prestigious Departments among Indian University Departments engaged in the teaching and research in Hindi Language and Literature.
